Here is the very new album from Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force “Perpetual Flame”. For this album Yngwie Malmsteen has been surrounded with Tim Owens (former Judas Priest/Iced Earth). We also find the former Dream Theater keyboard player Derek Sherinian. It is clear that this « Perpetual Flame » shows us all the Malmsteen’s passion for music and for his instrument, the guitar, no one can deny that he is one of the greatest guitarists of all times and this since several years. He has an undeniable talent to compose and to play at a very high level. All through the compositions you will find of the Yngwie’s talent for shredding and excellent quality soli (it is little to say that …). We’ll have to admit that Tim Owens’ voice and Yngwie Malmsteen’s guitar are forming a nice duo in each of the tracks.
Musically I have find certain compositions better than some others because more melodic, other times I have think that it was the guitar which was put into value but different guitars techniques and sometimes to the detriment of the musicality or the melody (but not always).
Vocally, what to say ? Tim Owens is an excellent vocalist who gives tribute to the compositions. He has a powerful, well at place voice and is right. The compositions are powerful, sometimes very catchy, with good refrains. Some tracks are sounding very neo classic, others a little bluesy and the two instrumentals are just simply excellent.
At the end it is an excellent album which will please the fans of the guitarist and of Tim Owens, one only bemol … the cover … untrendy and limits ridiculous …
